Trump Leading Biden in Key Swing States Ahead of US Presidential Election

According to fresh polls done among registered voters in four critical swing states, former US President Donald Trump leads President Joe Biden.

According to a new poll from The New York Times and Siena College, Trump has 52% support in Nevada, a state Biden nearly won in the 2020 presidential election, versus Biden’s 41%. Trump also leads Biden in Georgia, a key state in his strategy to overturn the 2016 presidential election, with 49% to Biden’s 43%.

Trump leads Biden in Arizona, too, with 49% to the incumbent president’s 44%. In Michigan, Trump has a 5-point advantage over Biden, with 48% to 43%.

In Pennsylvania, which Trump won in 2016 but Biden won back in 2020, Trump has 48% to Biden’s 44%.

Each survey has a range of sampling error of 4.4 to 4.8 percentage points, and the head-to-head matchup is still hypothetical because primary voting does not begin until next year.

Meanwhile, in Wisconsin, Biden wins 47% to Trump’s 45%, well inside the margin of error of the poll.

Trump is the Republican front-runner, while Biden, who faced a primary challenge from Minnesota Rep. Dean Phillips last month, is the Democratic front-runner.

The most recent battleground state polling highlights Biden’s significant hurdles, including poor job approval ratings and worries about his age and capacity to lead.

Given Trump’s escalating legal problems, the poll findings are concerning for Biden.

Trump is facing 91 criminal accusations in four indictments. He has pled not guilty to all of the counts leveled against him. So, despite his rising legal issues, Americans will still prefer Trump to Biden.

Biden campaign spokesman Kevin Munoz downplayed the polling in a statement on Sunday, November 5 telling CNN: “Predictions more than a year out tend to look a little different a year later.”

“Coming off those historic (2022) midterms, President Biden’s campaign is hard at work reaching and mobilizing our diverse, winning coalition of voters one year out on the choice between our winning, popular agenda and MAGA Republicans’ unpopular extremism. We’ll win in 2024 by putting our heads down and doing the work, not by fretting about a poll.” Munoz said.
