Michael Jackson’s legendary leather jacket from the 1980s has been purchased for £250,000 ($306,000).
According to BBC News, the black-and-white gown, which was worn by the late singer in a Pepsi commercial, was projected to fetch between £200,000 and £400,000 at auction.
On Friday, more than 200 pieces of music memorabilia were sold in London, including a George Michael jacket and an Amy Winehouse hairpiece.
Pieces associated with David Bowie, Oasis, and The Beatles were also auctioned off.
Jackson donned the jacket in the first of a series of ads for the soft drink corporation in 1984.
Those commercials are best recognized for an incident in which Jackson’s hair caught fire during a filming session, leaving him with severe burns. At the time, he was dressed in a different jacket.
Another expensive item was a beehive hairpiece worn by British singer Amy Winehouse in a music video for her 2007 album Back To Black’s song You Know I’m No Good.
It sold for £18,750 ($22,900), which was slightly higher than the lower end of its anticipated value.
Other things exhibited included those associated with Elvis Presley, Queen, and Johnny Marr.
