Kingsley Coman, a Bayern Munich and France winger, is expected to miss “several weeks,” including Wednesday’s Champions League quarterfinal against Arsenal, after breaking his leg in a 2-0 win over Cologne, the club revealed on Saturday.
Coman was taken off the pitch early in the second half on Saturday, requiring the assistance of two Bayern Munich staff members since he could not put weight on his leg.
“Kingsley Coman will be out of action for several weeks after the forward suffered an injury in his right adductor muscle,” Bayern Munich announced in a statement. The statement added that “this was confirmed by an examination from the club’s medical department.”
Bayern coach Thomas Tuchel confirmed that Coman would miss Wednesday’s second leg at home against Arsenal. The forward’s participation in Euro 2024 is also under threat.
The first leg of Bayern’s European tie in London finished 2-2 on Tuesday.
“It’s a huge disappointment that slightly overshadows the victory,” Tuchel remarked at the post-match press conference.
Bayern’s sporting director Christoph Freund stated that Coman “still needs to do some tests, but it doesn’t look good.”
“We hope it’s not tallied in months. We’ll see what the test shows, but we expect him to be unavailable for several weeks.”
Tuchel stated that his team needs to “throw everything into it” against Arsenal on Wednesday, telling reporters, “let’s hope the home advantage is the decisive advantage.”
Coman had just returned from a torn knee ligament that kept him out from January to March.
Euro 2024, to be held in Germany, begins on June 14.
