US Women’s Football Team Announce They’re Scrapping White Shorts to Make Their Players ‘More Comfortable’ During Their Menstrual cycle

Orlando

The Orlando Pride, a US women’s football team, has announced that the squad’s white shorts will be changed to make players feel more comfortable when playing while on their period.

The Orlando Pride previously used white shorts as part of their second kit, but with the alteration, they will now wear black shorts.

Erika Tymrak, a midfielder, said the club had taken a “significant step” by approving the change.

The reasons behind not wanting to wear white shorts are clear, but it is, unfortunately, something that hasn’t been addressed until recently,’ Tymrak said.

‘I think it’s a big step for us as a Club to make players feel comfortable and allow us to focus solely on competing.’

Pride have become the first NWSL team to update to dark shorts owing to period concerns, with the club seeking to remove the ‘shame involved with discussing health issues impacting women’.

According to figures from the Women’s Sports Foundation, by the age of 14, girls drop out of sports at twice the rate of boys, with puberty playing a role.

Pride stated that all girls teams in the club’s youth level will likewise wear dark shorts to practice and games.

The NWSL team stated that the quality will be maintained moving forward to reflect the shift, pledging to give ‘first-class player experience and care’.

Orlando Pride is the most recent organization to make the switch.

The All England Club stated in November that the ban on women wearing colored underwear at Wimbledon had been lifted.

After player requests, the club confirmed that its unique all-white rule will be changed for this year’s competition.
