The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Prince Harry and Meghan, are losing their official royal residence in the United Kingdom.

According to a representative for the couple, Harry and Meghan, who now live full-time in California, have been asked to vacate Frogmore Cottage, their residence since 2019.

“The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been asked to depart their residence at Frogmore Cottage,” the official said in a statement to ABC News on Wednesday.

The statement did not say when the Sussexes would leave the house.

Buckingham Palace has not yet responded.

According to ABC News contributor Omid Scobie, Harry’s father, King Charles III, decided to relocate his son and daughter-in-law out of their residence in January, just after Harry’s explosive memoir “Spare” was released.

According to Scobie and The Sun, Frogmore Cottage has been given to Charles’ younger brother, Prince Andrew, who is no longer a working royal due to his involvement with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

Harry and Meghan are also no longer senior working royals after resigning in 2020, becoming financially independent, and relocating to California.

The rumored improvements to Frogmore Cottage occur less than six months after Queen Elizabeth II’s death in September, when her eldest son, Charles, became King.

In 2019, the queen granted Harry and Meghan permission to relocate from Kensington Palace to Frogmore Cottage, which is located on the grounds of Windsor Castle, approximately 25 miles outside of London.

The couple rebuilt the building, which had been transformed into royal staff quarters in the 18th century, and moved there just before the birth of their first child, a son called Archie, in May 2019.

When Harry and Meghan stood down from their prominent royal positions a year later, they promised to repay the estimated $3 million cost of the Frogmore Cottage renovations to UK taxpayers.

Following that, the pair kept the house as their official abode in the United Kingdom and held financial responsibility for it.

While they lived in California full-time, the Sussexes shared the house with Andrew’s daughter Princess Eugenie and her husband Jack Brooksbank at one point.
