Mitch McConnell, the Senate Minority Leader of the United States, has been hospitalized following a fall at a hotel in Washington, DC.
According to accounts, the fall occurred on Wednesday evening, March 8, at the Waldorf Astoria hotel in Washington, DC.
“This evening, Leader McConnell tripped at a local hotel during a private dinner. He has been admitted to the hospital where he is receiving treatment,” a spokesperson for the Kentucky Republican said in a statement.
The 81-year-old is the Senate’s longest-serving Republican leader, noted for assisting the party in achieving key Republican goals such as filling the Supreme Court with conservative justices, implementing Trump-era tax cuts, and repeatedly stymieing Democrats’ legislative agenda.
It’s not the first time the politician had an unintentional tumble. McConnell fractured his shoulder after falling at his Kentucky home in 2019.
