UK Drops Indecent Assault Charges Against Harvey Weinstein

The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) in the United Kingdom dropped indecent assault allegations against Harvey Weinstein, a former Hollywood producer.

In 2022, the troubled 72-year-old was charged with two charges of indecent assault on a woman in London between July and August 1996.

The Metropolitan Police said the accusation involves a woman in her fifties.

However, on Thursday, the CPS said that it will no longer pursue the case after examining the evidence. It went on to say that “there is no longer a realistic prospect of conviction”.

“Following a review of the evidence in this case, the CPS has decided to discontinue criminal proceedings against Harvey Weinstein,” said Frank Ferguson, head of the CPS’ special crime and counter terrorism division.

“The CPS has a duty to keep all cases under continuous review and we have decided that there is no longer a realistic prospect of conviction.”
