Top 8 Scholarships in Belgium for International Students

Unbeknownst to many, Belgium offers a number of scholarship programs for overseas students, particularly those from underdeveloped nations. In order to promote development cooperation, the Belgian government provides scholarships to international students who seek to further their education in Belgium. Belgian universities, ranked in the top 100 worldwide, offer scholarship programs for international students.

1. VLIR-UOS Training and Masters Scholarship

VLIR-UOS provides scholarships to students from chosen developing countries in Asia, Africa, and Latin America to study development-related training or master’s programmes at Belgian universities. The scholarships include tuition, housing, allowance, travel expenses, and other program-related expenses.

2. Government of Flanders Master Mind Scholarships

The Flanders government has launched a new scholarship program called Master Mind Scholarships, which aims to encourage the internationalization of Flemish higher education. It provides up to 35 scholarships to excellent Master’s students from all over the world. The prospective student is offered a scholarship of up to 7,500 Euro per academic year. The Flemish Host Institution may charge the applicant a maximum tuition cost of 100 Euro per year.

Belgian universities offer study subsidies for Erasmus Mundus Master’s and doctoral degrees.

 

4. Science@Leuven Scholarships

The Science@Leuven Scholarship is intended for ambitious and bright international students who wish to participate in an international master’s programme at the K.U.Leuven’s Faculty of Science. The scholarship might be worth up to 10,000 euros for one year. The scholarship always covers one year’s tuition, insurance, and minimum health insurance coverage. The amount awarded for living expenses may vary.

 

5. University of Ghent Doctoral Scholarships

The University of Ghent awards PhD scholarships to promising PhD students from developing countries who want to do half of their research at Ghent University and half at a university in another developing nation.

 

6. Liege Heritage Foundation Scholarships

Liege University provides scholarships for both EU and non-EU students pursuing a Master’s or PhD degree at the university.

 

7. ARES Scholarships

Each year, the ARES awards 150 master’s scholarships and 70 training scholarships through courses to developing-country nationals. The scholarship pays for international travel, living expenses, tuition, insurance, and accommodation.

 

8. Belgian American Education Foundation Fellowships

The Belgian American Educational Foundation (B.A.E.F.) invites applications from US citizens or permanent residents for one-year fellowships for advanced study or research at a Belgian university or institution of higher learning. The B.A.E.F. will grant up to ten fellowships, each with a stipend of $28,000 for Master’s or Ph.D. students and $32,000 for Postdoctoral Fellows.
