Tiny 1 lb Baby Defies Odds, Survives, Leaving Doctors Astonished

A newlywed couple from Nebraska unexpectedly became parents when their daughter, Mira, was born.

She was born four months early and less than two weeks after their wedding. Mira was born at 22 weeks and 5 days, weighing barely 1 lb., 3 oz.

Mira’s father, Ben Urbach, described her as resilient. However, Dr. Mark Brisso, neonatologist and medical director at Bryan Medical Center, indicated that Mira’s odds of survival were less than 50% due to her gestational age and weight.

According to People, Urbach said that their daughter is doing well in the NICU, despite her premature birth.

Urbach, 36, and his wife Sara, 26, who met on Tinder in 2020, got married on January 13. While the pregnancy surprised them, they decided to go ahead with their wedding plans.

“Everything was fine,” Urbach explained. “Nothing was too difficult,” he explained.

Urbach revealed that Mira’s premature birth happened unexpectedly when his wife began dilating prematurely. Despite efforts to wait and see, Mira had to be delivered. She was born about 8 p.m. on January 25.

Mira’s early delivery stunned the parents and made history as one of the earliest recorded births in Nebraska, according to ABC affiliate KETV and CBS affiliate KOLN.

Despite her early arrival, Urbach said that Mira had made tremendous improvement in the weeks since her birth. Her doctor has confirmed that she is currently receiving breathing and nutritional support.
