Who Is Luke Bryan?
Before releasing his debut album, I’ll Stay Me, in 2007, Luke Bryan achieved professional success as a songwriter. Following that, he released the critically praised albums Doin’ My Thing, Tailgates & Tanlines, Crash My Party, and Kill the Lights, the latter of which yielded a record-breaking six No. 1 singles on the Billboard Country Airplay chart.
Bryan released What Makes You Country, his fourth Billboard Top 200 album, in late 2017, before making his debut as a judge on a rebooted American Idol the following year.
Early Life and Career
On July 17, 1976, Thomas Luther Bryan was born in Leesburg, Georgia, the youngest son of a farmer. Bryan was raised on his parents’ record collection, which includes country musicians like as George Strait, Conway Twitty, and Merle Haggard.
Bryan’s parents bought him a guitar when he was 14, and it wasn’t long before he was good enough on the instrument and with his voice to start sitting in with local musicians. Bryan played in musicals and created his own songs in high school, which he sung with a band he founded.
When he was 19, about to make the big move to Nashville, his world was turned upside down when his elder brother, Chris, was murdered in a vehicle accident.
Bryan put his Nashville goals on hold after his brother died and finished his education at Georgia Southern University to be closer to his family. He also kept himself occupied by working on his father’s peanut farm and performing with a new band on campus and in local bars at night.
Bryan was determined to pursue a musical career, and he penned songs on a regular basis, releasing a self-produced CD during this time. Bryan’s father saw his son’s dream slipping away and realized there was only one way to get him back on track: he told his son to pack his vehicle and drive to Tennessee or he would be fired.
Bryan moved to Nashville in 2001 and rapidly found work as a songwriter with a local publishing business. He has written songs for some of country music’s biggest stars, including Travis Tritt. He performed his own music at local clubs at night, and when a Capitol Records A&R rep saw him perform one night, Bryan was signed to the label.
