Keeana Barber, CEO and Founder of WDB Marketing, is the first Black woman to own a Signarama franchise on Chicago’s famed Michigan Avenue, marking a historic occasion for the city and the state of Illinois. This is her second Signarama location, following the success of her South Holland store, and it represents a key milestone in her career as a Black entrepreneur in the marketing and signage industries.
The downtown location’s formal opening on September 7, 2024, was a historic occasion, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson, Alderman Pat Dowell, and Arielle Johnson, CEO of the Business Leadership Council. Local business owners, community leaders, and media gathered to celebrate Barber’s accomplishment.
“I am incredibly honored to bring Signarama to Michigan Avenue,” said Keeana. “This isn’t just about expanding my business; it’s about showing what’s possible for women of color and making an indelible mark on a city that has supported me.”
Keeana’s adventure began in 2006, when she founded WDB Marketing, a full-service business focused on branding, graphic design, printing, and promotional services. Barber has established a reputation for excellence and innovation, assisting small and medium-sized businesses to develop via her own blend of creativity and strategic thinking.
The new Michigan Avenue Signarama shop will provide high-quality, personalized signage solutions such as monument signs, vehicle graphics, banners, wall murals, and wayfinding signage – services geared to help local companies increase their visibility and market presence. In addition, Barber’s agency will continue to provide its signature marketing services, including specialty collateral, promotional products, and digital marketing.
The grand opening ceremony was not just a display for Signarama’s cutting-edge technology, but also a reflection of Keeana’s dedication and vision. As a pioneer in both the signs and marketing industries, Keeana believes that her success would inspire other aspiring Black entrepreneurs, particularly women, to pursue their own business goals.
“It was my honor to welcome WDB Marketing to Chicago this weekend for its grand opening in the South Loop! Owner Keeana Barber represents what’s possible when we invest in Black women-owned businesses!” said Mayor Brandon Johnson during the event.
As Keeana continues to build her legacy, her newest venture on Michigan Avenue stands as a beacon for both the business community and future generations of entrepreneurs.
