Iranian officials reopened air operations on Monday following flight cancellations at several airports due to “operational restrictions,” according to state television, as Israel threatened retaliation for an Iranian missile strike.
Flights resumed around 11:00 p.m. (1930 GMT) on Sunday and were “carried out in accordance with the flight schedule,” according to Jafar Yazarloo, spokesman for Iran’s Civil Aviation Organisation, as quoted by the IRNA state news agency.
Iran launched over 200 missiles on Tuesday in its second direct attack on Israel, claiming vengeance for the deaths of Tehran-aligned militant leaders in the region, as well as a general in Iran’s Revolutionary Guard.
Since Iran’s attack, Israel has stated that it will reply.
Iran first blocked its airspace for less than two days, from Tuesday night to Thursday morning.
The aviation authority then declared that local and international flights would be grounded for security reasons until they reopened.
The European Union Aviation Safety Agency has recommended European aircraft to avoid Iranian airspace until October 31, with the situation still under review.
