About 25 minutes after takeoff in Ohio on Sunday, April 23, a Boeing 737 operated by American Airlines caught fire in the engine after colliding with a group of geese.
Video captures Phoenix-bound Flight 1958 returning to Columbus’ John Glenn International Airport when flames and smoke are visible coming from the right engine.
The plane made it to the ground safely, and no injuries were reported.
Around 7:43 a.m., the jet took off from the airport. Less than 30 minutes later, one of the engines caught fire, forcing the plane to turn around and land at roughly 8:22 a.m.
A passenger on board the aircraft told NBC 4 that he and other passengers heard a loud clanking sound inside the aircraft immediately after takeoff, and the pilot allegedly informed them that they had struck a flock of geese.
After the plane landed safely, the passengers were removed and taken to another flight that left later in the morning.
Pictures of the aftermath show firefighters and airport security putting out the engine fire and inspecting the airplane.

The Federal Aviation Administration has launched an investigation into the incident.
The incident comes just three days after another engine reportedly caught fire during take off from the Charlotte Douglas Airport in North Carolina.
The wing of the Airbus A321 flight to Dallas could be seen engulfed in flames as the plane was speeding down the runway to take off. The flight did not take off and the fire was quickly extinguished.
No one was reported injured in the incident, which was reported as a mechanical failure in the engine.
