A Look at the Companies Owned by Kenyan Businessman John Kimani

Kenyan billionaire John Kibunga Kimani’s outstanding portfolio, which includes investments in companies such as Kakuzi Plc, a leading agricultural enterprise listed on the Nairobi Securities Exchange, cements his position as one of Kenya’s wealthiest people.

Kimani’s shares in publicly traded companies on the Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) had a combined market value of more than $22 million as of June 29, placing him as the sixth-richest investor on the local stock exchange and among the most affluent individuals not only in Kenya but also throughout East Africa.

Kimani has a wealth of experience in the agricultural industry. He has led agricultural initiatives, irrigation projects, and resource planning in Kenya’s Tana and Athi River basins, spanning six districts.

His work has been financed by a number of international institutions, including the World Bank, the Netherlands’ SNV, Japan’s JICA, Denmark’s DANIDA, and Germany’s GTZ.

He has a direct or indirect stake in the following four companies:

1. Kakuzi Plc

Kakuzi Plc, an NSE-listed agricultural powerhouse, is well-known for developing high-quality horticulture products, including avocados, macadamia nuts, and passion fruits. They also process and sell tea, cattle, and commercial forestry in addition to these crops.

Notably, Kenyan millionaire John Kibunga Kimani owns 34.54 percent of the corporation, which equates to 6,762,133 ordinary shares, consolidating his foothold in the agriculture and manufacturing sectors.

2. Centum Investment

Centum Investment, a renowned East African investment organization, has a wide portfolio of quality investments that is largely held by the estate of late Kenyan magnate Chris Kirubi. The objective of the company is to promote access to remarkable enterprises across Africa, resulting in tangible riches for investors. Kimani is a substantial stakeholder in the company, owning 4.39 percent of it.

3. Nation Media Group

Nation Media Group is a prominent player in the media and entertainment industries, with interests in television networks, cinema, and television entertainment. Their large operating size and well-known brands enable them to create and deliver high-quality content across various platforms.

They reach and serve unrivaled audiences in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, and Rwanda as the largest independent media institution in East and Central Africa. Kimani owns 3.86 percent of this renowned media group, expanding his assets across flourishing East African sectors.

4. Rural Development Services

Rural Development Services Limited, which is closely affiliated with Kimani, is highly recognized for its enormous land holdings throughout Kenya, firmly establishing Kimani as one of the country’s foremost landowners. The high court ordered the corporation to complete the sale of a 126-acre property tract in Makuyu, Murang’a County, Kenya, to African Cotton Industries Limited by 2021.
