The Most Stressful Airports in the World to Travel Through this Easter

The aviation industry has faced challenges in 2024, including strikes, technical problems, and weather disruptions.

Many passengers may be hesitant to travel during the Easter season.

Although many reasons that make air travel difficult are beyond customers’ control, one thing they can do is choose which airport to fly from.

To make your journey more relaxing, consider avoiding the following airports, which have been named as the most stressful in the world.

VisaGuide.World, a visa guidance website, conducted a survey in December ranking the most stressful airports worldwide.

The report polled 1,642 air travelers of 53 different nationalities who took at least two international flights in 2023.

They were asked to identify the most stressful aspects of plane travel. Large airports can be challenging to traverse due to high passenger numbers, crowded conditions, frequent aircraft delays, and distance from city centers.

Using these issues, VisaGuide.World created an airport ranking based on five criteria: total number of passengers, airport size in square meters, passenger density per square meter, share of annual delays, and downtown distance in kilometers.

London Gatwick, the UK’s second largest airport, was ranked as the most stressful to travel through globally.

Although the number of passengers using Gatwick is lower than the norm for other airports, it has one of the highest passenger density rankings.

It has the second largest proportion of annual delays among the top ten, as well as the greatest distance from the city center (43 km).

Turkey’s Istanbul Airport ranks in second position. It is Europe’s busiest airport, with 64,289,107 passengers in 2022, ranking sixth in the globe.

Travelers report difficulty traversing the airport’s massive size of nearly 76 million square meters.

Germany’s Munich Airport came in third place. It received less than half of Istanbul’s traffic in the same year, with 31,642,738 passengers. But Munich Airport is five times smaller than Istanbul Airport.

Denver International Airport in the United States is ranked fourth, with Heathrow Airport, another British hub, in fifth place.

Heathrow is Europe’s second busiest airport, with 61,614,508 passengers. It is smaller than Munich airport.

Los Angeles International Airport took sixth place, followed by Rome-Fiumicino International Airport, Dallas Fort Worth International Airport, John F. Kennedy International Airport, and O’Hare International Airport.
