In his lawsuit against Walmart, Roderick Jackson, a resident of Texas, is seeking $100 million in damages or “unlimited free lifetime shopping” at any Walmart store. The handwritten complaints were delivered to the U.S. District Court in Arkansas, the home of Walmart, on Monday of last week.
Unrepresented by counsel, Jackson’s charges against Walmart are devoid of specifics regarding the basis for the litigation, as per NBC News.
The incident allegedly occurred in March 2021 in a store in Omaha, Nebraska. Jackson was accused of violating his civil rights on the basis of race and color and of engaging in “false pretense of shoplifting.”
In addition, Jackson is asking Walmart to pay for his court costs, and efforts to get in touch with him at a provided phone number have not been effective. Walmart stated through a representative that company “does not tolerate discrimination of any kind.”
“Mr. Jackson’s allegations are almost identical to a lawsuit he filed against our company in 2021 that was dismissed. We intend to defend the company against the allegations once we have been properly served and will quickly ask the court to dismiss any claims that are without merit,” the company said.
Jackson filed a lawsuit against Walmart in 2021, citing an incident in which he claimed his arrest was the result of racial profiling and false claims. The police department engaged in the allegation was not named, although emotional discomfort and pain from handcuffs were cited.
Later, Jackson revised his complaint to seek $175 million in damages instead of the $100 million he had originally demanded, along with a sizeable shopping credit.
Nevertheless, according to court records, the complaint was dropped that same year because Walmart had not been served correctly.
