Russian drones assaulted the southern Ukrainian port city of Izmail for the second night in a row, causing infrastructural damage, Kiev said Thursday, claiming that five Russian attack drones had infiltrated Romanian airspace.
Moscow has relentlessly targeted ports in the southern Odesa region since exiting a deal struck by the United Nations and Turkey last year that allowed Ukraine to ship grain over the Black Sea.
Local authorities in Izmail reported that the Russian attack destroyed “port infrastructure facilities” and injured two individuals.
According to the Ukrainian Air Force, Russia fired 38 Iranian-designed attack drones and air defense systems shot down 25 of them.
“Another three Shaheds were lost after crossing the state border with Romania,” it said.
The governor of the Odesa region, which borders EU and NATO member Romania, stated that the attack had destroyed an administrative facility.
Local authorities said that three persons were injured in a Russian attack on Izmail the day before.
Following Wednesday’s attack, Romania’s military searched for drone debris near the Ukrainian border, with Romanians reported hearing booms.
People in 17 cities and villages in Romania’s southeastern Tulcea county received mobile phone notifications early Wednesday after “several objects” were seen “approaching the northern area” of the county.
