Nick Cannon is well-known as a film star, comedian, TV and radio personality, singer, writer, director, executive producer, and philanthropist. He is also a successful business owner.
Cannon is the creator of NCredible Entertainment, a musical label and television firm that became a stealth competitor to Beats by Dre in 2009. While Dre’s Beats received all of the limelight, Cannon’s company was raking in big bucks.
According to him, the sale of headphones produced $100 million for NCredible Entertainment in 2009. He validated the sales estimates in an interview with the “The Diary Of A CEO” podcast.
His company struck an agreement with Monster to develop Bluetooth headphones, which are now available at retailers such as Walmart and Radio Shack. The accessories included a built-in microphone, a rechargeable battery for 15 hours of listening, and ear-cup controls, according to Walmart’s website.
In 2009, Beats By Dre’s Solo headphones were listed at $200, but his product was offered as $32.99.
“I did a headphone brand very similar to Beats by Dre with Monster as the parent company,” Cannon explained to “The Diary Of A CEO” host Steven Bartlett, according to AfroTech.
He continued, “They did Beats for $300 and they did NCredibles for $100. So, we were the more cost effective headphone. While Beats by Dre was making all the noise, we were quietly making noise in Walmarts and the Radio Shacks for selling an affordable product that was pretty much the same product, except for we made ours affordable. So, just so that alone, that was just in consumer electronics.”
Cannon grew up in San Diego but rose to prominence in North Carolina, where his father, a clergyman, allowed him to address the community. “I had the ability to get in front of people, but it wasn’t about becoming a star,” Cannon recalled, according to Crains New York.
Previously, she hosted America’s Got Talent and a syndicated top-40 radio countdown show, as well as programming Nickelodeon’s TeenNick network.
