Ralph Yarl, Who Was Shot After Ringing Wrong Doorbell, Starts Senior Year of High School

Ralph Yarl, who has demonstrated tremendous resiliency, just completed an engineering internship and is currently planning for college visits with his family this autumn. He wants to study engineering and is considering Georgia Institute of Technology, University of Michigan, Texas A&M University, and Purdue University. On Tuesday, his final year of high school began.

Yarl was wounded in the head and hand while trying to pick up his brothers at the incorrect house four months ago. The trial for the guy who shot him, Andrew Lester, is slated to begin in a week, as he begins his senior year of high school.

Lester is charged with first-degree assault and armed criminal activity, and his preliminary hearing is set for August 31. According to Revolt TV, Yarl and his family will confront Lester at the hearing, as the 84-year-old homeowner maintains his not guilty plea to the charges.

Andrew Lester, a white man, shot Yarl through his front door on April 13 as Yarl rang the doorbell. Lester later told officials that he was terrified because he thought the Black man standing outside was ready to rob him.

The high school senior who suffered a traumatic brain injury in the incident has received a lot of love. As he is a blossoming musician, a GoFundMe effort launched by a group of musicians from the United States and Canada generated cash to gift him a new professional model bass clarinet. A separate GoFundMe campaign set up on his family’s behalf has also received a large number of donations.

The example of Yarl’s wrongful shot has sparked debate in the United States over gun control and race relations. President Joe Biden has extended an invitation to Yarl and his family to visit the White House, though no exact date has been set.
