Warner Bros. Pictures and New Line Cinema have started production on Final Destination: Bloodlines, the sixth episode in the horror series. The announcement was made by two of the film’s creative geniuses, and it remains shrouded in mystery.
Craig Perry, one of the producers of Bloodlines, revealed the production on social media. “After a long, hard slog through the pandemic and the strikes, Day One is finally in the can,” Perry said in a statement. The producer also announced the film’s forthcoming release in theaters. “In 2025, the franchise’s initial installment will be 25 years old. “To commemorate the occasion with another global theatrical release (in IMAX, no less) is a rare and wonderful thing,” Perry stated. Final Destination: Bloodlines is set to be released in 2025, while no official date has been announced.
Christian Sebalt, the film’s cinematographer, appeared to confirm production by posting a picture on Instagram indicating his role as director of photography for Bloodlines.Bloodlines is now filming and will be directed by Zach Lipovsky and Adam B. Stein based on a scenario by Guy Busick and Lori Evans Taylor. Perry will produce with Jon Watts, Sheila Hanahan Taylor, and Dianne McGunigle for New Line.
Bloodlines is supposed to follow the same premise as Final Destination, despite limited story specifics. The previous five films portrayed groups of friends dying in a terrible tragedy, except for one who gets a premonition and saves them. The videos then chronicle attempts to prevent the survivors from dying, which was planned to happen during the initial catastrophe.
Jeffrey Reddick, the creator of the Final Destination franchise, has stated that the film will be thematically different but still follow the pattern. “When I say ‘steer away,’ it’s not gonna – I love all the films and I think that you can’t get away from the cheating death and death coming after you part of it because that’s what makes it a Final Destination film,” Reddick said in an interview. He added:
“This film doesn’t just kind of add another layer. Usually there’s a new layer every film where it’s like, ‘Oh, well, this can save you or this can save you.’ This film dives into the film in such a unique way that it attacks it from a different angle so you don’t feel like, ‘Oh, there’s an amazing setup and then there’s gonna be one wrinkle that can potentially save you all that you have to kind of make a moral choice about or do to solve it.'”
An exact release date for Final Destination: Bloodlines hasn’t been revealed.
