Everton’s penalty for violating Premier League financial regulations has been lowered from ten to six points following an appeal, the English top flight confirmed on Monday.
The team received the sanction in November after an independent commission determined that they had exceeded allowable losses under the league’s profitability and sustainability guidelines for the evaluation period concluding with the 2021/22 season.
However, an independent appeals board reduced that by four points, bringing the team up to 15th place.
“Everton FC appealed the sanction imposed against it on nine grounds, each of which related to the sanction rather than the fact of the breach, which the club admitted,” according to a statement issued by the Premier League.
“Two of those nine grounds were upheld by the appeal board, which has substituted the original points deduction of 10 for six.”
The club faces a second PSR charge for rule violations dating back to the end of last season.
