The San people, who live primarily in Botswana, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Angola, and South Africa, are known to live very simple lives with little or no influence from modernization.

The hunter-gatherers, who are thought to be the earliest in southern Africa, have been widely documented coexisting peacefully with tamed cheetahs.

“The San have a deep respect for wildlife, due to co-existing alongside them for centuries,” photographer Jack Somerville said in an interview.

Although wild animals, the San people tame some of them as cubs in order to provide much-needed assistance during hunting expeditions when they mature. As the world’s fastest animal, their services are undoubtedly useful.

The cats freely mingle with the San people in Namibia, where there is a sanctuary for rescued cheetahs, and follow them around as they go about their daily duties.

To honor their peaceful coexistence, Nsuri, your ultimate online destination for global black lifestyle news, shares some incredible photos of cats and San people.
