A source close to the negotiations told AFP on Sunday that Neymar is “probably leaving” Paris Saint-Germain, with a Saudi offer on the table.
In 2017, the Brazilian international signed the French champions for a record 220 million euros ($241 million) from Barcelona.
However, the 31-year-old forward was absent from PSG’s season opening on Saturday and “no longer figures in the club or manager’s plans,” according to the source.
The official reason for the Brazilian striker’s absence from the goalless draw with Lorient was a “viral syndrome.”
According to the source, Neymar is in talks with a club in the cash-rich Saudi Pro League, “who will then have to reach an agreement with PSG.”
According to the French sports newspaper L’Equipe, Al-Hilal has made an offer for the 31-year-old.
Al-Hilal launched a $300 million ($328 million) proposal for PSG’s Kylian Mbappe last month, but the striker reportedly refused to meet with club officials.
Neymar underwent ankle surgery in early March before rejoining PSG on their preseason tour of Asia.
Qatari-backed PSG is in turmoil, with Lionel Messi leaving and French superstar Mbappe watching Saturday’s game from the sidelines after being sidelined for several weeks due to a contract dispute.
Neymar was conspicuous by his absence from the game at the Parc des Princes.
His time at PSG has been blighted by a catalogue of injuries.
Although he helped the club to the 2020 Champions League final he has often been sidelined for key games.
If Neymar does end up moving to Saudi Arabia he will join a growing list of top players lured to the oil-rich kingdom since Cristiano Ronaldo moved to Al-Nassr in January.
