Meghan Markle and Prince Harry introduced the pioneering logo for the Invictus Games Vancouver Whistler 2025, which was created in collaboration with the Squamish, Tsleil-Waututh, Musqueam, and Lil’wat nations.
This is the first time the four First Nations have collaborated to make art. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex visited Canada last week to celebrate the One Year to Go ceremony. Meghan and Harry paid a visit to the Squamish Lil’wat Cultural Centre on Wednesday, which is a museum and art gallery dedicated to the legacy of Canada’s First Nations.
The phrase “First Nations” refers to Indigenous peoples who lived in Canada for thousands of years before European explorers arrived. After the tour, the center had a celebration to unveil the official logo for the Invictus Games 2025, according to People.
A statement on the couple’s official website highlighted their satisfaction in sharing the artists’ creations with the world. “The evening and presentation were important. “IG2025 and the couple are overjoyed to be able to share the artists’ work with the world.”
“The couple recognizes the significance of the First Nations communities welcoming the Invictus Games onto their sacred land and are thankful for the warmth and hospitality,” the statement went on to say.
Ray Natraoro, a master carver and canoe maker, stated that the final designs would represent their land and heritage. The designs, which are based on the cultural traditions of the Salish people of the Pacific Northwest, reflect the spiritual and cultural value of Salish art symbols while highlighting the varied perspectives of each artist engaged.
Nick Booth, Interim CEO of the Invictus Games Vancouver Whistler 2025, stated that designing the emblem is one approach to involve Host First Nations in the preparation and co-hosting of the international adaptive sports tournament.
He claimed that the joint effort between the Four Host First Nations and the Games recognizes the same process of healing for Indigenous communities and military service members, demonstrating sport’s potential to overcome hardship.
Prince Harry, 39, and Meghan, 42, kicked off the One Year to Go celebrations for the Invictus Games Vancouver Whistler 2025 on Wednesday. They were seen holding hands as they interacted with adapted skiers and their guides on a snowy peak.
According to reports, the couple will meet with members of the participating nations’ Winter Training Camp, which brings together members of the international Invictus Community to practice winter adaptive sports in preparation for the formal competition next year.
Prince Harry, a former British Army captain, founded the Invictus Games, an international adaptive sports championship, in 2014.
The Latin word “Invictus” means “unconquered,” which reflects the spirit of the event. Its motto, “I am,” comes from William Ernest Henley’s poem “Invictus,” which concludes with the lines, “I am the master of my fate, I am the captain of my soul.”
The 2025 games will be held in British Columbia’s Vancouver and Whistler. It will be the first Invictus Games to feature winter and indoor adaptive sports programs.
