Logan Eggleston Becomes the First Texas Student-athlete to be Named NCAA Woman of the Year

Logan Eggleston, an All-American volleyball player at Texas, was named the 2023 NCAA Woman of the Year during the Top 30 awardees ceremony at the NCAA Convention in Phoenix.

In the award’s 33-year history, she is the only Texas student-athlete to receive it.The NCAA established the award in 1991 to honor graduating female student-athletes who excel in athletics, academics, leadership, and community service.

Eggleston’s parents accepted the award on her behalf because she was unavailable due to professional volleyball commitments.

Expressing her excitement, Eggleston said, “It was such an honor to be nominated. There are so many amazing student-athletes across the country who are going through their own journeys and their own hardships and finding ways to power through, find success and just grow as people. To be listed alongside some of these amazing student-athletes is incredible, and I’m so honored to have even been considered.”

The 23-year-old started her career at Texas in 2018 and quickly became the Big 12 Conference Player of the Year. Eggleston earned five All-American awards from the American Volleyball Coaches Association, including three first-team selections, and was named Big 12 Conference Player of the Year three times throughout her five-year career.She is one of only two players in conference history to have received first-team All-Big 12 recognition five times.

After leading her team to victory in the NCAA Division I Women’s Volleyball Championship, the pioneer was named the 2022 AVCA National Player of the Year as well as the NCAA Championship Most Outstanding Player.

She also got the 2023 Honda Sport Award for Volleyball, which is granted to the top collegiate female volleyball player. She was a finalist in both 2021 and 2022.

Logan chaired the Texas Student-Athlete Advisory Committee for two years. During that time, she helped establish the Longhorns for Engagement, Access, and Development Initiative, which distributes funds from Texas sports to nonprofit organizations that benefit Austin’s varied neighborhoods.

She also worked to create the Developing Neighborhood Texas Fund, which raises cash for athletic equipment and sports programs for Austin’s low-income youth.

Eggleston represented all student-athletes during College Athlete Day, where the 2022-23 NCAA national champions from all three divisions gathered at the White House on June 12, 2023.

“It was one of the craziest and coolest experiences. I got to be inside the White House and stand on stage beside Vice President Kamala Harris. I talked about the sacrifice, hard work and commitment that it takes to compete for a national championship and got to share my feelings, knowing that everyone in the crowd had the same experience and knew exactly what I was talking about,” she remarked.

She was also the first volleyball player in Texas history to receive first-team All-America and first-team Academic All-America honors.

The youthful prodigy was also named to the 2022 All-Star team, honored twice as an Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar, and granted the McLendon Foundation Postgraduate Scholarship in 2023, which includes a $10,000 scholarship for postgraduate studies in athletic management.

She was awarded both the NCAA Walter Byers Scholarship and the NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship for the academic year 2022–2023.

Eggleston is currently pursuing a master’s degree in sports management at Texas while also playing professional volleyball for Galatasaray Sports Club in Istanbul, Turkey.
