KHEAA Offers Full Scholarships For Students Pursuing Trade Careers

The cost of college tuition might be very overwhelming.

For those who desire to pursue higher education but are concerned about the cost, there are tools available to assist.

Kentucky’s Work Ready Scholarship program assists students in achieving their goal of earning a degree.

It is an endeavor of the Kentucky Higher Education Assistance Authority, or KHEAA, to fund degrees and certifications in high-need workforce issues.

“The Work Ready Kentucky Scholarship Program enables students to pursue an industry-recognized skill or trade, become certified in it, and then enter the workforce,” said Kim Dolan, KHEAA’s VP of Government Relations.

The Work Ready Kentucky Scholarship accepts applications from five labor sectors: advanced manufacturing, construction, transportation logistics, healthcare, and business technology.

Eligibility conditions include being a Kentucky resident, a high school graduate or GED recipient, and having never acquired an associate degree.

Then, if authorized, you can attend colleges such as BCTC, where the scholarship covers full tuition and relieves students of the burden of college expenses.

“The Work Ready Kentucky scholarship is a way for students to ease that burden so that they can concentrate on what’s important, which is completing that degree, making their grades, and being successful in the classroom,” said Runan Evans, Associate Dean for Financial Aid at BCTC.

It has grown in popularity among students due to the availability of over 2,600 course options.

“Last year, about 522 students received work-ready from BCTC, and that was about $1.5 million, so it’s a huge success program, and a lot of students are taking advantage of it,” Evans said.

Any Kentucky resident can apply now by picking a desired program, filing the FAFSA, and submitting the scholarship form on KHEAA’s website.
