Cherice Williams is the CEO and founder of Blaq Luxury Hair, a multimillion-dollar company she founded to help people with hair growth issues. To improve the quality and appearance of one’s hair, the hair products are made with eco-friendly ingredients.
Williams’ struggle with hair loss inspired the creation of Blaq Luxury Hair. Williams, a Jamaican immigrant, moved to the United States in 2016 to pursue her dream of becoming a Wall Street financial analyst while studying at the University of the West Indies. When she first arrived in the United States, she worked as a housekeeper and a waitress.
She was eventually diagnosed with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), a hormone disorder that affected her hair. In 2018, she began experiencing dry, brittle, damaged hair and hair loss. She tried several products, but none were effective. This prompted her to develop her own solution, and thus Blaq Luxury Hair was born.
According to The Garnette Report, she created the product with Alopecia, Scalp Eczema, and Dandruff in mind. Her first and most popular product, Mega Gro Hair Serum, helps restore distressed edges and other areas of hair while restoring moisture to cuticles.
Williams’ first sale occurred one week after the launch of her website. Her products were unlabeled at the time. Nonetheless, after the initial purchase, she carefully packaged the product and included a usage note.
Following receipt, the person ordered another bottle, which was followed by two more sales. Williams then realized that her product might have a market. With no budget support, she began asking for free shoutouts in exchange for products from small pages where she would only make one or two sales, if any at all, according to her website.
