Following a lengthy divorce process, a Ghanaian court ordered former Ghana national team captain Asamoah Gyan to pay compensation to his ex-wife.
The court determined that he is the biological father of their three children, bringing a three-year legal fight that included charges of infidelity and paternity questions to a close.
The court ordered Asamoah Gyan to distribute various assets and financial support to his ex-wife, Gifty Gyan. He is expected to give her with a residence in the United Kingdom, another in Accra, a petrol station, and two vehicles.
Gyan has also been ordered to pay 25,000 Ghanaian cedis every month, which is equivalent to $2,100 or £1,729, for their children’s care and well-being.
Gyan’s past charges of infidelity and his doubts about the paternity of his three children have intensified the legal conflict, which has been ongoing for several years. A DNA test, however, has definitely confirmed his biological relationship to the children, eliminating his worries.
Following a petition filed by Asamoah Gyan, the court formally canceled the marriage, which had already ended. The court accepted in its decision that Gifty Gyan had made major contributions to the acquisition of the houses in dispute because she was primarily responsible for the children’s upbringing while Gyan pursued his professional football career.
Asamoah Gyan, who retired from football in June, had a distinguished career, finishing as Ghana’s all-time leading scorer with 51 goals in 109 national team appearances. Furthermore, he is Africa’s all-time leading goal scorer in World Cup history, with six goals in the 2006, 2010, and 2014 editions.
