At the March league meeting, Miami head coach Mike McDaniel stated that the Dolphins made an offer to free agent wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. and that the talks will continue. A week into April, the discussions haven’t ended, but also haven’t resulted in an agreement.
According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, the Dolphins are “trying pretty hard” to sign Beckham, but regardless of how hard they try, they clearly haven’t offered Beckham the kind of money that will entice him to sign, at least at this time in the summer.
It was at this point last offseason that the Ravens signed Beckham to a one-year contract, and the $16 million Baltimore gave Beckham proved to be an overpayment, as he caught only 35 catches for 565 yards. If Beckham is waiting for that type of offer, he will be waiting a long time.
Beckham, who missed the entire 2022 season due to a knee injury, has only 1,421 yards in the last four seasons. He’s still well-known, but it’s been a long time since he was one of the NFL’s top wide receivers.
