Delane Parnell: Black CEO Quits $400 Million Gaming Company He Founded to Build New Business

Delane Parnell is the founder of PlayVS, North America’s top amateur esports platform. He is stepping down as Chief Executive Officer after six years of trailblazing in the gaming industry, and will be replaced by Joe Gibson.

He will, however, continue on the board of directors as a senior advisor throughout the interim period and after the appointment of a new CEO.

“I’m extremely proud of what we’ve achieved at PlayVS in only a few years,” Parnell noted in a statement. “Leading such a talented team has been an honor, and developing an innovative product that has created so many opportunities for an underserved audience has been a dream come true.

The company has evolved into the official “high school esports partner to the NFHS Network, the Special Olympics, and 36 state and regional organizations in the United States and Canada to offer officially sanctioned high school esports leagues.”

Parnell is recognized with transforming high school esports, making it a popular scholastic athletics department. His ambition inspired approximately a fourth of all high schools in the United States to join PlayVS and include esports into their after-school activities.

These schools have won sanctioned state championships and even received collegiate esports scholarships.
