Coups: Protecting Democracy In Africa Remains Paramount Priority, Trudeau Tells Tinubu

On the phone with President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau stated that the promotion and protection of constitutional democratic governance on the continent remained a top priority.

This comes just hours after a group of Gabonese military commanders said on television Wednesday that they were “putting an end to the current regime” and calling off Ondimba’s election.

Ajuri Ngelale, Senior Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, made the announcement while speaking to State House media in Abuja.

According to Ngelale, the Canadian leader discussed the problem in Niger Republic and the emerging scenario in Gabon with Tinubu.

According to the presidential spokesman, they also asked the world community to advance the cause of democracy on the continent for the benefit of the economic prosperity of all Africans.

President Tinubu went on to say that he will continue to meet with heads of state not only inside the African Union, but also around the world.
