Casey Bushey: Ossian Teen Awarded National STEM Scholarship

An Ossian teen has been awarded one of 12 national STEM (science, engineering, technology and math) scholarships.

The Dematic FIRST Scholarship Program named Casey Bushey as a recipient of a $1,000 scholarship toward his post-secondary education.

Bushey plans to attend Indiana University Bloomington.

For their fourth year, the program saw applicants from 28 states as well as Washington D.C. and Canada.

FIRST, For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology, focuses on uplifting the next generation of supply chain and logistics industry leaders and innovators.

Recipients were selected for their academic excellence and ambitions in STEM fields.

Applicants were required to submit their transcripts, a one-page essay describing a future where humans and machines collaborate in a warehouse and a letter of recommendation.

“This year’s Dematic FIRST Scholarship winners are truly exceptional,” Mike Larsson, president of Dematic and executive board member of KION Group, said. “The skills and experiences they’ve gained through the FIRST program will propel them not only to successful careers in STEM but also to becoming future leaders. The high caliber of this year’s applicants highlights our need for continued investment in STEM education. By empowering these future leaders, we’re paving the way for the next generation.”

Competitors in a FIRST Robotics Competition or FIRST Tech Challenge were eligible to apply.
