Beyoncé is showing her philanthropic muscle in the hair care industry as she launches her new hair product line, offering $500,000 in grants to support salons and beauty school scholarships.
On Tuesday, the “Texas Hold ‘Em” singer’s charity arm, the BeyGOOD Fund, announced a partnership with her new haircare product, Cécred.
“We place a high value on developing talent, promoting professionalism, and encouraging entrepreneurship in the hair industry,” according to a statement on BeyGOOD’s website.
“That’s why we’re partnering with Cécred to create the Cécred x BeyGOOD Fund, which celebrates the influence professional stylists have on hair health and the critical importance of advocating for the salon community,” according to the statement.
The grants will be distributed annually to 25 recipients in five cities: Los Angeles, Atlanta, Chicago, Houston, and New Jersey. According to the group, the locations were chosen due to their “large, diverse community of hair stylists.”
Tina Knowles, the 42-year-old Grammy award winner’s mother, was a salon owner and hairstylist when Beyoncé was younger.
“In the culture of Black folks, all the way from the beginning: If you could do some hair, you’ll never be broke,” Knowles told Essence magazine in an interview this week about her daughter’s Cécred product line.
“So much of the fabric of who I am came from her salon,” she remarked.
