The Archbishop of Canterbury has been convicted of speeding just days after the King’s coronation.
Justin Welby, 67, was fined £510 in total for violating a 20mph restriction near Lambeth Palace on October 2, last year. He was also given three penalty points after being spotted speeding in his Volkswagen Golf on the A3036 Albert Embankment by a speed camera.
He admitted to the crime in writing and was sentenced in a private magistrates’ court. On the same day he appeared in the House of Lords to oppose the UK government’s Illegal Migration Bill, Welby pled guilty online on Wednesday, May 10.
Under UK law, if a motorist gets 12 or more points within three years, they can be banned from driving.
