On Sunday, April 16, two small children in an apartment building in New York City suffered significant injuries after falling out of windows.
On a spring day, hours apart in two horrifying occurrences, the kids were left unattended and fell from the windows, according to police and law enforcement sources.
According to authorities, the first incident happened just after 11:30 a.m. at 420 West 26th Street when a three-year-old girl fell from an apartment on the sixth floor of the Chelsea Houses public housing complex.
The young child was on a bed that had been pushed up against a window when she dropped around 60 feet and landed on some grass.
She was taken to Bellevue Hospital in critical but stable condition.
The window did not have window guards, a violation of city law, sources said.

According to the sources, there were five other kids and three adults present in the residence at the time.
A two-year-old girl was reported to have fallen out of an apartment building’s fifth-story window later in the afternoon, according to sources.
Police sources state that at 3:30 pm the toddler fell onto a grassy area behind the building on Beachgirt Boulevard.

She was rushed to Long Island Jewish Children’s Hospital, where she was listed in stable condition.
The girl’s father was home at the time of the incident and there were no window guards in place.
