Euromonitor International‘s annual Top 100 City Destinations list for 2023 was issued in December. The analysis assessed cities based on 55 variables across six categories, including tourist infrastructure, health and safety, sustainability, tourism performance, and others.
Euromonitor International’s report included a top ten list of worldwide cities based on the number of international immigrants.
“International travel has continued to make a strong recovery in 2023 with 38% growth in terms of number of trips, projected to reach 1.3 billion by the end of the year,” according to the research.
Euromonitor International’s top ten list included only one American destination: New York City. Between 2022 and 2023, the Big Apple had 11 million arrivals, a 24% increase.
“When it comes to booking travel, consumers are supposed to look for value for money. According to Nadejda Popova, Senior Manager at Euromonitor International, the report’s findings will increase consumer demand for intraregional travel, which is often a discretionary choice. “Travelers will continue to favor authentic and local experiences in addition to sustainable tourism alternatives.”
Istanbul, Turkey, was the top city for international arrivals in 2023. According to the research, the city received 20.2 million tourists in 2023, representing a 26% increase from 2022 to 2023.
The historical center of Istanbul is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is home to various buildings and structures, including the Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace, Constantinople’s Walls, and more.
National Geographic recommends visiting Istanbul during the spring or autumn months (April-May and September). The seasons are also less congested than during the summer.
London ranked second with 18.8 million international arrivals in 2023. From 2022 to 2023, visitors to England’s capital city increased by 17% year on year.
The survey identified London as having the greatest tourism infrastructure in the world. Several companies, including Park Hyatt, Oberoi, and Mandarin Oriental, intend to open new hotels in the city.
London is home to a number of prestigious higher education institutions, including Imperial College and the London School of Economics.
Buckingham Palace, the London Eye, and the Tower of London are among the city’s most popular attractions.
