Efforts to increase security around Black Lives Matter activist Zyahna Bryant have received huge support, with hundreds of individuals donating to give her with protection. As of Wednesday, the GoFundMe account started by Erica Chapman, who claims to be Bryant’s cousin, has raised more than $10,000.
Bryant has drew controversy for her collaboration with Dove to campaign for “fat liberation” after reports that she was involved in the expulsion of a white student due to misconstrued statements. Chapman added that she was inspired to start the GoFundMe campaign because the activist is experiencing anxieties that go beyond what she has been experiencing for years, such as hate mail and threats.
According to her, the threats became more serious following Bryant’s recent announcement of a collaboration with Dove Beauty to promote fat freedom. According to the New York Post, Chapman stated that as a result of the threats, she decided to seek financial backing to improve Bryant’s security.
Bryant’s safety, she continued, is crucial as a graduate student engaged in classroom and community work, and they hope to avoid racist attacks from impeding her important efforts to empower underprivileged individuals and communities.
Chapman sought help from friends and relatives to assure Bryant’s safety while she completed her critical work. As of Wednesday, she has raised $10,360 of her $15,000 target. The nature of the dangers confronting Bryant is yet unknown. There is no information available on the particular security measures she may employ.
In a recent Instagram video, the 22-year-old activist emphasized the significance of valuing the views and experiences of the most marginalized persons and communities. She emphasized the importance of society prioritizing the minority voices of those who navigate spaces and institutions while inhabiting a fat body.
Bryant has come under fire for making false charges that led to the dismissal of a white student by University of Virginia administration. Former FOX personality Megyn Kelly, who weighed in on the debate during her podcast, claimed that a simple Google search would have revealed Bryant’s questionable acts. She brought up Bryant’s alleged attempt to ruin the life of a white student at the University of Virginia by falsely accusing the student of making insulting remarks about black people during a BLM protest, such as referring to them as speed bumps in front of the police.
