Maria do Socorro Azevedo claims to be the eighth child of famed player Pele, according to local media. She is seeking that Pele’s body be exhumed for DNA testing.
According to Sky News, Azevedo claims to be entitled to 60% of Pele’s assets set aside for his children. In his testament, famed player Pele (Edson Arantes do Nascimento) may have mentioned having an eighth child, a girl he never met. He died in December 2022.
Although his children’s DNA test returned a negative result, a second test is apparently ongoing. Azevedo claims she is Pele’s eighth kid and wants a piece of his riches.
Pele apparently agreed to take a paternity test, but he died before it could be completed. In response, Azevedo’s lawyer has requested that Pele’s body be exhumed so that the test can be conducted. The lawyer representing Pele’s widow has declared the request “unreasonable” and “unlikely” to be granted.
In her first public comment, Azevedo told Record TV that her mother never notified Pele about her pregnancy. Azevedo requested paternity tests in 2019, but they were not completed due to Pele’s health and the COVID-19 pandemic.
Edinho, who is in charge of Pele’s inheritance and is one of Pele’s seven offspring, revealed that tests have previously shown that Azevedo is not their sister.
