In May 2022, Samuel, a two-day-old baby, was deposited in a safe haven box at Louisville Fire Department. According to FOX 5 Atlanta, the minor’s biological mother left a written note that included the phrase “I love you.”
Chris and Brittany Tyler, a Kentucky couple struggling with infertility, became interested in Samuel’s tale as it gained widespread attention. The Tylers, who have fostered 17 children, expressed hope that little Samuel would ultimately join them.
“We were just next on the list for a placement,” Brittany said. The Tylers fortunately got what they wished for as they received a call about taking Samuel in as a foster child. “We got the call from the placement workers that they had a baby that had been surrendered, and would we be able to take him in? And we said, ‘absolutely,’” Brittany recalled.

Brittany also stated that Samuel was quite small at the time he was surrendered, so he was placed in the NICU to receive proper nursing care. The couple adopted Samuel in December 2023. The Tylers have adopted their third child, Samuel, who is now 20 months old. According to Fox 5 Atlanta, Samuel’s adoptive parents are fostering a girl in addition to his two brothers.
The Tylers have limited knowledge regarding Samuel’s mother and believe meeting her is unlikely. Brittany also stated that the contents of the written note led her to believe Samuel’s mother was a young person searching for help. The couple stated that they hope to tell Samuel how he was adopted at some time.
“She’s made a very brave, selfless decision. And she wanted the best for him,” Brittany said in reference to Samuel’s mother.
“We’re just thankful to God that He chose that we would be the family for him,” Chris added.
