Top 10 UK Scholarships for International Students 2024-2025

The British government and UK universities offer a huge number of fully funded scholarships or tuition-free scholarships to international students who wish to study in the United Kingdom. HowAfrica has compiled a list of the top 10 UK scholarships available to international students.

1. Chevening Scholarships

Chevening Scholarships, the UK government’s global scholarship programme, are offered to excellent scholars from Chevening-eligible nations worldwide. Awards are typically for one-year Master’s degrees. Most Chevening Scholarships cover education, a fixed-rate living stipend (for one person), economy class return flights to the UK, and supplementary funds to meet necessary expenses.

 

2. Scottish Saltire Scholarships

The Scottish Government, in collaboration with Scottish universities, is offering Scotland’s Saltire Scholarships to citizens of Canada, China (including Hong Kong), India, Japan, Pakistan, and the United States who want to pursue full-time Masters degrees in science, technology, creative industries, healthcare and medical sciences, and renewable and clean energy at Scottish universities. Each grant is worth £8000 and will be used to cover tuition fees for one year of full-time education.

 

3. Global Wales offers postgraduate scholarships 

The Global Wales Postgraduate Scholarship scheme provides scholarships of up to £10,000 to international students from Vietnam, India, the United States, and European Union nations to study full-time master’s programmes in Wales.

 

4. Great Scholarships

GREAT Scholarships provide students from Bangladesh, China, Egypt, Ghana, Kenya, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Mexico, Nigeria, Pakistan, Thailand, Turkey, and Vietnam with £10,000 to cover tuition fees for a variety of one-year taught postgraduate courses.

 

5. Commonwealth Master’s Scholarships

The Commonwealth Scholarships are meant for students from developing Commonwealth countries who wish to pursue Master’s studies in the United Kingdom. The UK Department for International Development (DFID) has financed these scholarships. Each scholarship covers airfare to and from the United Kingdom, tuition and examination fees, personal living expenses, thesis grants (if applicable), and an initial arrival allowance, among other things.

 

6. Gates Cambridge Scholarships

Gates Cambridge Scholarships are provided to outstanding students from any country outside the UK to pursue a full-time postgraduate degree in any topic offered by the University of Cambridge. A Gates Cambridge Scholarship covers the entire cost of studying at Cambridge. It also offers additional discretionary funds.

 

7. Clarendon Scholarship at the University of Oxford

The Clarendon Scholarship Fund is a prestigious graduate scholarship system that awards approximately 140 new scholarships each year to eligible graduate applicants (including overseas students) at the University of Oxford. Clarendon Scholarships are offered to graduate students at the University of Oxford based on academic excellence and promise in all degree-bearing areas. The scholarships fully cover tuition and college fees, as well as provide a considerable grant for living expenses.

 

8. University of Sussex Chancellor’s International Scholarships

The University of Sussex Chancellor’s International Scholarships are available in the majority of Sussex Schools and are awarded to non-EU international students who have applied for and been accepted into eligible full-time Postgraduate Taught degrees at the University of Sussex. The grant is 50% off international student tuition and is available for one year.

 

9. Bristol University ThinkBig Scholarships

In 2020, Bristol University will invest £500,000 to attract the brightest and greatest international students. Think Big Undergraduate and Postgraduate scholarships are available for courses at the University. The tuition fee grants range between £6,500 and £26,000.

 

10. Warwick’s Undergraduate Global Excellence Scholarships

The Warwick Undergraduate Global Excellence Scholarships enable brilliant, ambitious overseas students to pursue their academic interests at one of the UK’s most respected universities. Approximately 20 full-fee scholarships, 160 half-fee scholarships, and 70 £2,000 grants are available.
