Report: British Actor Aaron Taylor-Johnson Offered New James Bond Role

The Sun reports that British actor Aaron Taylor-Johnson, 33, has been given the classic cinematic role of James Bond, MI6’s most famous spy. Taylor-Johnson has yet to publicly accept the job, according to the tabloid, but if he does, he will become the seventh actor to play the role since the film series began in 1962.

Taylor-Johnson also appeared in the 2010 black comedy superhero picture Kick-Ass and the 2015 Marvel feature Avengers: Age of Ultron. He would take over for Daniel Craig, who has played the character five films since Casino Royale in 2006.

Historically, the part has been credited with transforming lesser-known actors into huge film stars. Sean Connery, the first Bond actor, had only acted in a few short TV films before being hired in the part that catapulted him to global renown.

Many renowned names have been touted as the next James Bond actor, including Henry Cavill, Tom Hardy, and Idris Elba.

Elba was picked as the top choice by fans in a poll held by Lottoland, an online gambling firm. However, the actor has previously shown disinterest in the role, particularly in relation to the discourse surrounding race and his casting.

“It’s interesting that the James Bond phenomenon is still going. In 2017, he stated that he believes it is more important to choose a Black actor as James Bond than Idris Elba. “That’s the part that I’m like, ‘Ugh, come on.'”

Many fans hope for a more diverse choice for the part, which has previously exclusively been played by white men. In the Lottoland survey, several people voted for well-known female actresses such as Emilia Clarke and Emily Blunt.

Eon Productions, which makes Bond films, is apparently working on a script and ready to shoot a new film.

“As far as Eon is concerned, Aaron is going to sign his contract in the coming days and they can start preparing for the big announcement,” a source familiar with the situation stated.
