One Dead, 200 Others Land in Hospital with Injuries During Serie A Title Party in Naples

 

On Friday, March 5, national media reported that a 26-year-old man died and over 200 people were hurt in Naples amid celebrations for Napoli’s Serie A victory.

 

Vincenzo Costanzo, 26, of Ponticelli, was killed after being struck by bullets at Naples’ central Piazza Volturno.

 

According to Ansa, three more persons were injured in the same incident in the southern Italian city. None of them are in critical condition.

 

According to the daily Corriere della Sera, it is unclear if the bullets were fired as part of the football celebrations or as part of criminal activity.

 

According to La Stampa, the victim, who died after being carried to the hospital, was affiliated to a local mafia clan. The police are currently conducting an investigation.

 

According to La Stampa, more than 200 individuals were hospitalized overnight for injuries sustained during the celebrations, ranging from knife cuts to burns from firecrackers and asthma attacks induced by inhaling smoke from flares.
