Geselle Valera, a New Jersey native, posted a video on social media that has gone viral of herself getting ready for Beyoncé’s “Renaissance” concert in a dress designed by her father.
The 27-year-old captioned the video, “My dad put this together the night before @joseperalta693 but the amazing idea came from non other than MUTHAAAAA @mallelyne_p.”
Valera recorded her father putting the fabric on her and sewing it together on his sewing machine. She then appears in the video wearing the end product, a printed two-piece inspired by Beyoncé’s David Koma tour look, which was styled by KJ Moody. She completed the look with cowboy boots and sunglasses, both of which she won on the Renaissance trip.
Valera told mitú, “I didn’t have an outfit for the Beyoncé concert, and my older cousin—who is like a sister — was on FaceTime with me Wednesday night trying to find something on Amazon. Of course, everything in silver was sold outttttttt.”

She expressed her concern that nothing would be delivered on time. Her cousin spotted something and pushed her to have her father make it seem like Beyoncé’s outfit. She described how the item arrived on Friday and how she raced home from work to have her father repair the garment. She claimed she didn’t even notify him and simply told him the next day. Her father, Peralta, acted immediately and finished the garment in a matter of hours.
Valera mentioned that her father had always “aspired” to be a business owner. “I always told him to, and he’s always aspired to have one. But he came to this country [from the Dominican Republic] at around 33–36 years old. So he just worked hard to get us where we are today,” the 27-year-old said.
Her video attracted a lot of attention and admiration, with the majority of people applauding her father’s efforts.
According to CNN, there is a clothing code for “Renaissance” tour concertgoers. The theme is Afro-futurist disco fantasia, and in order to emulate a “alien superstar,” fans have worn silver cowboy boots, bejeweled headgear, and other creative apparel.
