Tarisai Musakanda, a former Zimbabwean national cricket player, has been arrested for attempted m*rder following a violent argument with his wife.
Musakanda, who last represented Zimbabwe over two years ago, is now facing serious legal charges as a result of this incident.
According to National Police Spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi, the altercation began when Tinodiwanashe hired two guys to build a shelter at her vending location. When the workers came to collect payment, tensions rose, resulting in a violent fight with Musakanda.
Screams emanating from the couple’s home at 3 a.m. awoke neighbours. One of the neighbours, who requested anonymity, recalled the scenario.
“We were woken up by the sound of shouting. Mai Dewei was calling for help, so we rushed over. When we arrived, we saw Musakanda holding a knife, and his wife was trying to protect herself, but she was injured. After we managed to intervene, we saw that she had been st@bbed in the back, and we immediately took her to the hospital.” the witness said
The neighbour also mentioned that this was not the first instance of violence between the couple, saying, “They’ve had many fights in the past. Musakanda even beat her once with a stick. This time, it got worse, and we had to step in before things became fatal.”
Musakanda is no stranger to legal issues, having been previously charged in connection with a fatal car accident in 2022.
