On Monday, well-wishers prayed for King Charles III’s rapid recovery after he was diagnosed with cancer.
The monarch was diagnosed with a type of cancer and had began treatment, Buckingham Palace said in a statement on Monday, just a week after being released from the hospital for prostate surgery.
The palace further announced that doctors advised the king to postpone public appearances but would complete formal documentation.
“His Majesty has today begun a program of regular treatments, and doctors have urged him to postpone public-facing duties. During this time, His Majesty will continue to conduct State business and official paperwork as usual,” according to a statement released by The Royal Family on X.
It went on to say that the monarch “remains wholly positive about his treatment and looks forward to returning to full public duty as soon as possible.”
The Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Rishi Sunak, said on X, “Wishing His Majesty a full and speedy recovery.”
“I have no doubt he’ll be back to full strength in no time and I know the whole country will be wishing him well,” he said.
According to AFP, US President Joe Biden expressed “concerned” about the king, telling the press that he had only “just heard” of the British monarch’s cancer diagnosis.
Former President Donald Trump, the likely Republican contender in the November US elections, also stated on his Truth Social network that the king was “a wonderful man” and that “we all pray that he has a fast and full recovery!”
Boris Johnson and Liz Truss, former UK leaders, also wished the king and his family well.
“The whole country will be rooting for the King today,” Boris stated on X.
Truss said on X that she was “sending best wishes to His Majesty The King and the Royal Family as he undergoes cancer treatment.” He will remain in our thoughts and prayers. “God Save the King!”
Humza Yousaf, Scotland’s First Minister, said on X that his thoughts were with “Her Majesty The Queen and other members of the Royal Family at what I know will be a worrying time for them all”.
Former US President Donald Trump called the King a “wonderful man”.
Trump wrote on social media, “He is a wonderful man, whom I got to know well during my presidency, and we all pray that he recovers quickly and completely!”
Emma Little-Pengelly, Northern Ireland’s Deputy First Minister, said she will pray for the King.
“I would like to wish His Majesty, King Charles all the very best for his treatment,” she said, according to the BBC.
“I, like many people throughout Northern Ireland, will keep him and his family in my prayers,” she said in a statement.
Amanda Pritchard, the chief executive of NHS England, was one of several health-care leaders who wished King Charles well.
“Finding out you have cancer can be very daunting – we hope King Charles’ treatment goes well,” she said on social media, along with a public reminder to be tested if symptoms occur.
The palace stated that the king chose to announce his illness “to prevent speculation” and in the intention of increasing public understanding for all those suffering by cancer around the world.
Last Monday, three days after receiving an operation to treat an enlarged prostate, King Charles departed a luxury London hospital.
The 75-year-old king, clad in a suit and black overcoat, waved to the throng as he and Queen Camilla exited the facility and hopped into a waiting car.
Buckingham Palace said Charles, who spent three nights in the hospital, had delayed his upcoming activities while he recovered.
Charles became king on September 8, 2022, following the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II.
