Zambian Footballer Kundananji Becomes Most Expensive Women’s Player

Racheal Kundananji, only six years after making her debut for Zambia, has become the world’s most expensive female footballer.

The 23-year-old has signed a $860,000 deal with Bay FC of the American National Women’s Soccer League, leaving Madrid CFF.

Kundananji is the first African player, male or female, to achieve a world transfer record, surpassing Keira Walsh’s previous female record of £400,000 set in a move with Barcelona in 2022.

After a strong start in 2018, scoring three goals for Zambia at the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, her climb has been meteoric, with 33 Liga F goals in 43 appearances during her 18-month stay with Madrid.

The Zambia international will now play alongside Nigerian star Asisat Oshoala, the six-time African Women’s Footballer of the Year, establishing a team that will undoubtedly be the envy of clubs throughout the world.
