Latoya Burke increased her wealth as a result of her good fortune and sound judgment. The Chesapeake resident purchased six tickets in the Virginia Lottery’s Pick 5 game with the same five numbers for the June 5 drawing.
Matching all five winning numbers resulted in $180,000 in winnings, with each ticket valued at $30,000.
She won $30,000 on a 50/50 wager by matching all five winning numbers in the exact order of the drawing (5-5-5-5-0). According to the lottery organization, the odds of matching all five digits in the same order are one in 100,000.
Burke, who purchased the lottery tickets at Tinee Giant on Jackson Avenue, stated, “I checked the numbers, and I was happy.”
The Virginia Lottery’s profits go directly into the state’s public K-12 education system.Last fiscal year, Chesapeake received almost $27.2 million in Lottery funding to support K-12 education.
The Lottery raised almost 10% of Virginia’s total K-12 school budget in Fiscal Year 2023, amounting to more than $867 million.
