Idah Peterside, a former Super Eagles goalkeeper, predicts that Nigeria would easily defeat the Elephants of Ivory Coast in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) final on Sunday.
Nigeria defeated South Africa 4-2 in a thrilling penalty shootout following a 1-1 draw in 120 minutes of frantic play to get to the final.
Ivory Coast, on the other hand, only needed one goal from Sebastian Haller to secure a final match against Nigeria. Both clubs have previously met in the competition’s group stage, with the Eagles defeating the Elephants 1-0.
On Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily on Thursday, Peterside predicted that the Nigerians would easily defeat the Ivorians due to tremendous pressure.
“We all thought South Africa would be our toughest game. The game versus Ivory Coast will be simpler because we defeated them earlier in the group round.
“They (Ivory Coast) got here by sheer luck. I saw the game versus Congo yesterday. They are not as skilled as we are. They simply wobbled and bungled into the final, and they will be under pressure.
“The final game will be so easy; I say it again and we will win easily,” Peterside told reporters.
While Nigeria is vying for its fourth AFCON crown, the Ivorians are going for their third.
