Usher, a veteran singer, has had a fantastic year. In addition to hosting a successful and unforgettable Las Vegas residency, the 45-year-old performed at the 2024 Super Bowl halftime performance before marrying Jenniffer Goicoechea.
The Confessions singer recently confessed that his family was startled by the couple’s nuptials in Sin City, despite the fact that they were already engaged. During an interview with ET at the 55th annual NAACP Image Awards, Usher discussed his family’s reaction to his marriage.
“It was an incredible moment that we felt was great for us,” he went on to say. “It was a button that marked the end of an extraordinary Las Vegas run. My mother was present, as was her mother, the children, and our immediate family. In fact, everyone was startled. I said, ‘No, no, no, we’re having a wedding right now. “We’re going to have Elvis officiate us.”
During his acceptance speech for the President’s Award for Philanthropy, the musician praised his mother and family.
“I’m thankful for the support that my mother gave me for my dreams,” he went on to say. “I’m so overwhelmed with appreciation for my entire family, without them I wouldn’t be able to do this.”
“They say that standing behind, beside, or with every strong man makes a stronger woman, and for that, I thank my mother and my lovely wife, Jennifer, for keeping it together. My children, I love you very much. I hope to be an example. “I’m a father who is just trying to get it right every day,” he explained.
In addition to receiving the President’s Award, Usher was named Entertainer of the Year. “It has been a hell of a year, but it’s been a hell of a career,” he told the news site. “At 45, you hope you’re just getting warmed up, or you’re collecting these types of plaudits because of your tenure, your 10,000 hours. You start to see the benefits, so I’m overjoyed to be acknowledged here for what I want to do, which is aid the young.”
In 2019, there were reports that Usher was dating music executive Goicoechea. The couple presently has two children: daughter Sovereign Bo, born in 2020, and boy Sire Castrello, born in 2021. Usher already has two children with his first wife, Tameka Foster: Usher Raymond V, 15, and Naviyd Eli, 14. The two split in 2009, and Usher married Grace Miguel, whom he divorced in 2018 after three years.
In 2023, Usher revealed that Goicoechea has been really supportive off-stage.
“I have an amazing partner, a support system,” he went on to say. “We have an amazing dynamic between our relationship where I’m able to be passionate still about what I do and have an incredible partner to work through some of the harder times as a young man dealing with children and dealing with the dynamic of how you communicate with them.”
