Eight Ugandan music band members were detained and charged with insulting the president after complaining about his speech at an event on Saturday.
According to the BBC, the incident occurred during the 50th wedding anniversary festivities of former Prime Minister Amama Mbabazi and his wife Jacqueline Mbabazi. President Yoweri Museveni presented a speech at the ceremony, but members of the Crane Performers band expressed dissatisfaction with its length.
According to security sources, the band members spoke in the local Runyankole dialect at the time. They allegedly said, “Rutabandana Waturusya Rugahamuzindaro” – which translates to “over speaker, we are tired, leave the microphone.”
